The sonic character is SEGA’s mascot and the main persona of the series. Ever since the first release of the game in 1991, the series has sold over 70 million copies. These gaming characters are one of the most memorable ones over the last two decades, influencing generations of addicts. The Sonic character is around 15 year old supersonic hedgehog. Naoto Oshima, designer Hirokazu Yasuhara, and programmer Yuji Naka were the creators of the sonic design. He was born on Christmas Island. He is about 100 centimeters tall and weighs 35 kilograms. Blue and-peach-skinned, with green eyes, the Sonic character has the ability to move faster than the speed of sound, which is 765 mph, faster than Mach 1. He also possesses the skill of curling up into a ball to attack enemies, which is the major part of the game play of the series.
Talking about sonic design, his color was based on the SEGA logo, while his shoe buckles are based on Michael Jackson, while the shoe color is based on Santa Claus. The exact age, weight, height and other physical characteristics of the character and sonic design may differ depending on the continuity in which he appears and the drawing style.
In the original design by Naoto Ōshima, the sonic design comprises of a round body, one spike in his back, and short spiky hair. Succeeding Sonic video games featured similar designs. Around 1998, the character was redesigned by Yuji Uekawa, with longer legs and a less spherical body and longer drooping spiky hair. The sonic character also had two spikes in his back, and emerald-green-colored eyes. Additional subtle changes to the sonic design and design have been made in following games. Several variations of all the video game designs have featured in comics and cartoons with restrictions set by the standardized model sheets.
